COVENTRY CITY OUT OF EFL CUP

Coventry City have been knocked out of the EFL Cup following their defeat in the first round of the competition. The Sky Blues are no longer in the EFL Cup this season after they were beaten at home by fellow English Championship side Bristol City.


English Championship outfit Coventry City have not been able to play any game at their home ground due to the fact that the pitch is unsafe. Their home game against Bristol City in the EFL Cup on Wednesday took place at the Pirelli Stadium in Burton.Coventry City went behindon 12 minutes when experienced Scottish attacker Kal Naismithfound the back of the net. Six minutes later, Tommy Conway scored the first of his two goals to double the lead for visitors Bristol City. His brace was completed on the half-hour mark to edge his team 3-0 ahead.

 

Coventry Cityhad a foot in the second round of the EFL Cup as at the end of the first half thanks to their three-goal lead. Jamie Allen pulled one back for home team Coventry City on 62 minutes, but it turned out to be a consolation goal for the Sky Blues with Austrian attacker Andreas Weimann finding the back of the net to seal a 4-1 win for Bristol City.

 

The target for Coventry City this weekend is to get back to winning ways when they take a trip to The Den to take on Millwall. The two teams will face each other in a week three game in the English Championship. Coventry City are yet to taste defeat in the league though they have played just one game. In their league opener this season, Coventry City played out a 1-1 draw at the home of Sunderland. Their second game at home to newly promoted team Rotherham United initially billed for last weekend was postponed due to the state of the pitch.
