Coventry City another Defeat in the League

Coventry City suffered yet another disappointing result in the league after a 3-0 defeat against Swindon Town. More than the result, manager Steven Pressley was concerned by the lack of goals from his team over the last few weeks.

This has been a major issue for Coventry, as the League One. Unsurprisingly, they are struggling very close to the relegation zone as the season just enters into the new calendar year. Adding to the goal scoring woes, the team has also struggled to keep clean sheets. After managing to get two shutouts in the last two matches, Coventry slipped at the back once again against Swindon.

The upcoming match against Gillingham, who are close to them in the table, will be very important for Coventry. Another defeat could see them struggle with a lack of confidence going into the business end of the season. Continue reading “Coventry City another Defeat in the League”

Liverpool Boss praises Rooney as National Team Captain

Wayne Rooney, who was made as the captain of the England national team by Roy Hodgson a few months ago, says that the former Liverpool boss has been doing stellar work with the national team. Hodgson was on the verge of being sacked in the summer after a disappointing World Cup, but the English FA decided to continue with him. They have been rewarded with excellent showing in the Euro 2016 qualifying so far. Despite being in a relatively tough group involving the likes of Switzerland and Slovenia, England have been able to win the opening four matches.

They have looked extremely comfortable in these matches after conceding just one goal and having scored 11. Rooney has been in sparkling form during this period. He recently scored three goals in the matches against Slovenia and Scotland to cement his reputation as the important player in the team.

Rooney says that the World Cup 2014 was particularly tough for England and Hodgson deserves a lot of credit for putting this memory back in the distant past. The national team are using a much different formation done in recent years with Hodgson keen on taking advantage of players like Raheem Sterling and Rooney.

Rooney says that he expects the England team to get even better if they continue this progress. “After the World Cup Roy was under pressure, of course. We all were. And he’s done fantastically in how he’s getting us to progress as a team. He’s using all his experience which is great for us as players.

We used a different system against Scotland to what we have in previous games, he’s making us do the right things at right times in games, which is certainly benefiting us as a team. We expected to win. We know we are the better team, we know had to work to get the victory,” said Rooney.
